The 360 looks like a big improvement over the first gen machine but I can get many of the best games for it on the PC. The Playstation 3 is incredibly powerful but it’s from Sony (the same company that gave us the root kit) and I don’t want a machine that tries to take over my living room.
But the Wii. It just seems like the right decision, especially when you’ve got young gamers in the family. Plus it has the best collection of franchise games such as Mario and Zelda and many others you can’t find on the PC or other consoles. Nintendo may not have the flashiest graphics but they nail the game play. In my book, that’s what matters most. That the Wii costs hundreds less than the other two is icing on the cake.
Link to MSNBC article where familes and gamers had a chance to test all three consoles. By the end of the test, which console do you think they gravitated to the most?
Update: I waited in line for several hours to land a Wii and came up empty handed. I was #60 in a line at Fred Meyer that had only 54 available for purchase. But I did locate a Wii on Craigslist at a fair price. More to follow once I play with it a bit more. First impressions are very positive.

Agreed, this arms race for the most powerful machine is sort of ridiculous to me, so many people forget about the reason most of us play games. It’s the fun, stupid. I have a 360, and I love it, but I tire of the sniping between Sony and Microsoft over who has the more powerful machine. I thought we left these fights about who’s tougher in high-school.
Give me something I refuse to put down, like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and playing on my old-school, non High-Def tv, and the power of the system becomes irrelvant, it’s all about immersion. I have no interest in the PSP and it’s PS@ like graphics, but I picked up a DS (at the prodding of a certain someone), and all of the sudden I can perform medical operations, draw, improve my brain power, and perform medical operations. Did I mention I could perform medical operations?
That’s what I’m talking about.

I’ll agree, the Nintendo Wii was definitely for me not simply because it was cheaper or it had my childhood favorite Zelda, but because the system was a completely new concept. Sensory remotes, controlled by the act of swinging it in specific ways customized by the game to read your actions through body movement. I waited two hours in line at Toys R Us for this console and I’m glad I shelled the cash out to get it. Not only can I play this by myself but I can play it with my boyfriend, against him or with him, and still have fun. I had no problems with my Nintendo Wii when I hooked it up to the wireless but I am hoping for the LAN Ethernet to USB in January so I can play at a friend’s while I visit without requesting a wireless adapter. Great system, no problems and I also am a fan of the Wii Friend coding needing to be mutual before you talk to anyone else. It makes it secure for the little ones and anti-stalkerish for the adults(like this gamer girl) to avoid being spammed by overly-interested people who get my Wii Friend Code.
