I really like the suggestion from 43 Folders to “cancel something” to make your life simpler. I have over 20 magazine subscriptions right now which is down from 30+. I’m going to prune a few.

Does Windows Mobile make for a better Treo?
According to Mossberg the answer appears to be no.
“Despite some nice new features, the Windows Mobile software is still inferior to the Palm software for one-handed use on the go”.
cNet calls the new phone “A Marriage not made in Heaven”
“Alas, even after all that plastic surgery, you can’t escape the fact that you’re basically running Windows”.
Favorite Websites of 2005
A handful of my favorite website I discovered last year:
1. Digg – This is nirvana for tech news nerds. I probably spent more time on this site than any other this past year searching for interesting stories. Make sure to checkout the incoming live activity.
2. Craigslist – I know it’s been around but I never thought much of it till our family decided to move from Utah to Seattle and was looking for a place to live. Some of the wackiest posts around like this one found in the “Best of Craigslist” section.
3. The Superficial -Cancel your subscriptions to People and US Weekly. A very funny site about all the latest gossip.
4. retroCRUSH – This site takes me back to grade school.
5. TorrentSpy – I have no idea how this got here.
6. Falling Sand – My 4 year old daughter is hooked on this interesting site.
7. Technorati – My favorite site for tracking the most popular blogs as well as discovering new ones.
8. Zombo – “the only limit is yourself…..” Enough said!
Mining Tragedy Confusion
Watching the West Virginia mining tragedy unfold on CNN was extremely sad. I can’t imagine the emotions those families felt as they were told 12 of the 13 miners had survived only to devastated when that wasn’t the case. I felt West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin handled himself well in the face of tough questioning. I hope the families of the lost miners realize that their anger should be directed towards the owners/operations of the mine. MSNBC is reporting the mine was cited 273 times for safety violations over the past two years.
The Chronic of Narnia Rap from SNL
My favorite line? “The Pibb and Red Vines = Crazy delicious
Clean Fire Trucks and Shoe Shining
Does your neighborhood have sparkly clean fire trucks? Seth Godin offers his explanation on why most fire trucks are so clean, and takes a few jabs as businesses “waiting for the alarm to sound”.
I’m reminded of the time I served 2 years as a missionary in Germany for my church. Our president would require our shoes to be immaculately shined. Before meetings all 200 or so missionaries would spend up to an hour on each shoe making sure it was properly shined. What might I have accomplished and how many people could I have helped had I decided to spend less time shining my shoes?
Rick Segal says goodbye to 2005
Rick Segal, self described, “VC Loonie” tosses out a few last minute ideas for making 2006 a better year than 2005. The entire post is great but I especially like this suggestion:
Forward your phone to a responsible person
Let’s face it, you need the personal touch of a responsible assistant but, as a start up, you can’t afford it. Simple. Forward your phone to a responsible friend. You know the one that keeps the desk neat, remembers people’s birthdays and never seems to have any fast food wrappers tossed in the back of their car…
Coldplay CD not intended for Listening
Given all the DRM restrictions on the latest Coldplay CD I don’t believe it was meant to be listened to. Coldplay has become so big that their record company feels it’s time to release souvenirs that look like CDs but don’t really do much.
The major labels are so far detached from reality that they feel this behavior is normal. They are dinosaurs that stand in the way between the bands and the music lovers.

Update: The “sucker punches” continue from Fast and Loud.
Automoblox
I read about Automoblox a few months ago and placed an order for the M9 SportsVan figuring it would make a nice Christmas gift for my three year old son. But after doing a bit more research, I think I might get as much enjoyment out of the car as my son will. More to come once it arrives.
Update: Here’s a detailed history of the man behind Automoblox and his quest to get his company off the ground.
